Apple does it, Samsung does it: Galaxy S21 partly without power supply

When Apple presented its latest iPhones, Samsung was quick to criticize the competitor for not having an included power supply unit. It is now becoming apparent that Samsung will soon be dispensing with the delivery of the network adapter. As the Brazilian Tecnoblog found when looking at the approval documents for the various models of the Samsung Galaxy S21 series, the devices are to be sold in Brazil without an included power supply unit. Ultimately, this is likely to be the case in many other countries as well, with some probability Germany being one of them.

This is supported by the fact that, according to the Brazilian telecommunications regulator Anatel, the Galaxy S21 SM-G991B, Galaxy S21 Plus SM-G996B and the Galaxy S21 Ultra SM-G996B are to be sold without a power supply unit. Experience shows that the devices with the suffix “B” on the model number are also the versions that come onto the market in Europe.

Equipment may vary depending on the country or region

Nevertheless, the German branch of Samsung could of course still decide that a power supply unit should be included in this country, since one is oriented towards the “needs” of individual markets. In general, it should depend on the region for which a device was produced worldwide, whether a power supply is included. A general waiver like Apple seems unlikely at the moment.

There were rumors some time ago that a power supply unit would not be included in the new top smartphones in the Galaxy series. Now these seem to be confirmed. By eliminating the included power supply, Samsung can on the one hand save costs and at the same time hope for additional income from the sale of accessory products. In the case of high-end devices in particular, however, some customers might be bothered by the fact that they cannot use the quick charge function without additional costs.

At the launch of the iPhone 12, Apple argued that the lack of the included power supply would primarily have a positive effect on the environment. In fact, most smartphone users already have power adapters from devices of earlier generations. With the Galaxy S21 and its sister models, nothing changes in the fact that the devices, like their predecessors, can be charged with a maximum of 25 watts via fast charging.
